convention, held 6-7 September, 2002
at the Wairakei Resort
near Taupo on the North Island of New Zealand.
The convention was hosted by the Kiwanis Club of Taupo.

About the venue:
The convention was held at
the Wairakei Resort in Wairakei north of Taupo.
Nested beautifully in the heart of the picturesque Wairakei Park, the
resort offers major accommodation and conference facilities that
compliment the world renowned clean green environment of the Lake Taupo
District. Leisure activities are well catered for at the Wairakei Resort,
with a wide range of on-site activities including a 9-hole golf course,
putting practice green, two all weather tennis courts, two heated outdoor
pools, spa pools and a fully equipped health centre with gymnasium, squash
court, sauna and massage room..

- Program - Preconvention - Thursday, 5 September, 2002
- 10:00-12:00 - District Foundation Trust meeting
(for foundation trustees)
- 13:30-16:00 - 2001/2002 district trustees meeting
(for 2001/2002 district officers and chairpersons -
observers welcome)
- 15:30-20:00 - Registration desk open
- 19:00 - dinner for past governors
- Program - Day 1 - Friday, 6 September, 2002
- 07:30-09:00 - registration desk open
- 09:00-09:45 - opening ceremony
- 09:45-10:30 - business session
- 10:00-14:00 - registration desk open
- 10:30-10:45 - morning tea
- 10:45-12:00 - business session
- 12:00-13:15 - lunch
- 13:15-16:45 - business sessions including workshops and
election of governor designate, governor-elect and other
officers for 2002/2003.
- 19:00 - a "Simply Magic Night at the Circus". Fancy
dress - circus theme. All the tight-rope walkers, lion tamers,
and bare back riders turned out. A good time was had by all.

- 07:00 - Past lt. governors breakfast
- 07:30-10:30 - registration desk open
- 08:45-12:00 - business sessions
- 10:30-10:45 - morning tea
- 10:45-12:00 - "Keynote Speaker" followed by business sessions
- 12:00-13:15 - lunch
- 13:15-16:45 - business sessions and workshops
- 16:45 - convention business close
- 18:15-19:15 - governor's hospitality (by
invitation only)
- 18:15-19:15 - pre-dinner sociallizing in the hotel house
bar
- 19:15 - "Simply Magic Black and White
Cabaret Night". A formal night with the participants dressed
in black and white. A magic dance
orchestra to lure you onto the dance floor, a 'Simply
Magic Cabaret Show', the magic Wairakei Resort and the magic
food and wine, left everyone with memories of
a "Magic" weekend.
- 19:30 - the governor designate will present his trustees
and chaipersons for 2002/2003.

- 10:45 - thanksgiving service
- 11:30 - farewell buffet lunch
Partners Program
- Friday, 6 September, 2002
- 10:00 Minibuses were provided for partners wanting to go
into town. Options: facilities at Wairakei Resort
for golf or tennis.
- Saturday, 7 September, 2002
- 09:15 "SIMPLY MAGIC TOUR": Registered partners took a coach
for a Magic day out. This included morning tea and lunch.
Accommodation Arrangements:
Standard rooms at the
Wairakei Resort Hotel (the convention venue)
were priced at NZ$115.00 per room per night including tax for single
or double occupancy.
Fees:
The full registration fee was NZ$220 per person
for members and the same rate for partners. There was no registration
fee for children (and no program for them).
The registration fee covered participation at all social events plus
morning and afternoon teas, Friday and Saturday luncheons, workshops and
associated activities including the partners program for
registered partners. Sunday lunch was not covered by the registration fee nor was accomodation.
Partial registrations were available for NZ$130 per person per
day. The partial registration included ALL activities offered
on the selected day (Friday or Saturday).
"Convention Bonds" were offered for a limited time to reduce the cost of registration but sold out in July.
The Kiwanis Club of Taupo put on a district convention that was Simply Magic !
